Art-For-Art’s-Sake Theatre: Ruin

Time once again for our midday (midafternoon, whatever) Wednesday feature.

We know how much you all love talking about zombies, vampires, and the end of the world as we know it. Here is an eight-minute animated short film set in a post-apocalyptic universe. Wes Ball spent two years making this out of his Los Angeles-based Oddball Animation studio. And while there are aspirations for making it into a longer piece, it does the job as it is. Read more about it here.

Nice film. But what's up with the post title? How is it "art for art's sake?"

Art for art's sake is nonsensical no different than "healing for healing's sake" as if the final end of healing is healing as opposed to healing this patient.

Arts by nature exist as a solution to a problem.

Nevertheless, nice film, I thought until it ended that I had perhaps found a new sci-fi feature length movie.

I disagree, and that's as far as I'll go with it. In any case, this is a regular feature here at midweek, and I had to call it something.

And keep your eyes open. The short film is making the rounds in LA, and may yet appear as a full-length version.
