The Eternal State of the Union

I never watch the State of the Union address. I never expect to hear anything new or different. And thanks to Matt Welch writing for Reason.com, now I know why.

[S]tarting with John F. Kennedy's address to a joint session of Congress in 1961, you could take one sentence from each SOTU since, in chronological order, and cobble together a speech that will likely resemble much of what you'll hear tonight.

So that's precisely what I've done. Without further ado ...


You should read it on this night every year. In fact, maybe we'll just post the damn thing every year and save everyone the trouble.
