Acorns and Other Nuts

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is under Federal investigation, on account of massive voter fraud. Oversight people from both major parties are sounding the alarm. But more than that, news channels other than Fox are picking up on it. Our first clip shows CNN getting on the case, as it has been for at least a week now. Did I mention that they received $800,000 from the Obama campaing to help fund its primary registration drive, and returned the favor by endorsing him? His campaign, meanwhile, is "committed to protecting the integrity of the voting process and... has not worked with ACORN during the general election."

Okay, not lately. Gee, why didn't you say so?

Meanwhile, Christopher Buckley, son of the late William F Jr, is coming out in favor of Obama. This, despite the following:

McCain rose to power on his personality and biography. He was authentic. He spoke truth to power. He told the media they were “jerks” (a sure sign of authenticity, to say nothing of good taste; we are jerks). He was real. He was unconventional. He embraced former anti-war leaders. He brought resolution to the awful missing-POW business. He brought about normalization with Vietnam—his former torturers! Yes, he erred in accepting plane rides and vacations from Charles Keating, but then, having been cleared on technicalities, groveled in apology before the nation. He told me across a lunch table, “The Keating business was much worse than my five and a half years in Hanoi, because I at least walked away from that with my honor.” Your heart went out to the guy. I thought at the time, God, this guy should be president someday.

Well, Chris, thanks to East Coast establishment bozos like you, he may never be.

Unfortunately, and in the process, the importance of the company we keep runs the risk of being overlooked. Thankfully, the talking heads are starting to talk about it, and (dare we say this again?) not just Fox News. People think these things don't matter in the face of a financial meltdown, unless they consider that Democrats in Congress like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank and Maxine Waters ignored the warnings from across the aisle. Those three clowns have already been caught on tape in the last few years spouting words they could be having for breakfast by now.

But they get away with it by blaming Bush, just because he happens to be President at the moment, as if he could run the show all by himself (a power he doesn't have in our Constitution, as they may recall from their junior high civics class), and we're all stupid enough to lap it up. Barring our gullibility, it would be a wonder they have the nerve to step outside to leave the house in the morning. They probably feel lucky they didn't get caught in cahoots with a former domestic terrorist. "Hey, I only went to his house for a fund-raiser to kick off my political career. It's not like I actually had anything to DO with the guy!"

Hey, if even CNN isn't buying it anymore, it's only a matter of time. Too bad there isn't much left. Stay tuned...

It is time for all Catholic bloggers to begin a movement to shut down the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) as it currently stands.

CCHD gave ACORN over $1million last year and almost that amount in 2006.

It needs a major overhaul.

Will you join me in spreading the word?
