The Fool on the Hill

At a press conference before his White House appearance, “Sir” Paul McCartney distanced himself from any criticism of the administration, for its handling of the oil spill off the Louisiana coast, with the old “I'm not a politician” line, then proceeded to tell the most obsequious press corps in American history to “lay off” the President. At the performance itself, when receiving the Gershwin Award from the Library of Congress, he expressed his gratitude thus: “After the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

Jeff “The Curt Jester” Miller wondered “if Paul McCartney realizes that Laura Bush was a librarian. Maybe he should have read a book about it.” It's a sad state of affairs, when the Beatle who was probably the most media-savvy of the Four, has to demonstrate so little class at a White House event, with the cameras rolling.

Never mind his getting applauded for it. With the cameras rolling.
