When is a lesbian not a lesbian?

I dunno, it's all Greek to me: "A Greek court has been asked to draw the line between the natives of the Aegean Sea island of Lesbos and the world's gay women... Three islanders from Lesbos — home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women — have taken a gay rights group to court for using the word lesbian in its name..."

Another "we can't make this stuff up" moment from the wires of the Associated Press.

I have to tell you a funny story that my sister related to me two weekends ago.

She was talking about her neighbors who were immigrants from South Africa. They were all blonde, blue eyed, whiter than white with a Dutch last name.

I asked my sister if there was any confusion with them being African-American and all, somewhat as a joke.

She told me that the daughter, when she filled out her applications, put "African-American" in the Race/Nationality part of the application. She did it completely unknowingly, because she hadn't come to realize that African-American means "black" in the U.S.

She started getting applications for scholarships from the United Negro College fund, and other organizations who give money to "deserving African-American students". She asked her dad what to do about them and her dad said "go ahead and apply for them".

She has received a ton of money from these organizations, and she is probably the whitest "African-American" any of them have ever seen. :)
