There Was An Old Lady

Summer is upon us, and with it come fond memories of summer camp. One cannot imagine the news channels reminding us of the songs we sung around the campfire, but these days, you never know. And whatever one's opinion of the subject in question, we must concede that most of us could never do this on the first try.

Yeah, he got the sucker. (UPDATE: Meanwhile, PETA responds.)

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly;
Perhaps, she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
But, I don't know why she swallowed the fly;
Perhaps, she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird.
How absurd, to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;
I don't know why she swalloed the fly;
Perhaps, she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Just like that, she swallowed a cat!
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wiggled and jiggled, and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly;
Perhaps, she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
What a hog, to swallow a dog! [etc.]

There was an old lady who swallowed a goat.
Just opened her throat, and swallowed a goat! [etc.}

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don't know how, but she swallowed a cow! [etc.]

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse.
She's dead, ofcourse! [song ends here-no more repeating]

One day, I will take my grandchildren to the Obama Presidential Library and National Shrine in Hyde Park, and show my children that fly.

One day my now ex-wife, who had previously objected to swatting of flies, exploded, "Don't kill the
$%&*Ç$ flies!"
I responded, "Okay. The $%&*Ç$ ones, no. The other ones, yes."
