Obligatory “What Cardinal George Really Said” Thing

The Archbishop of Chicago, His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, has been in poor health, which may be why we have heard relatively little from him this election year. But he may have said all that needed to be said, when he said ...

I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square.

... and, depending on who gets elected, you can believe it. However, there has been much debate over whether he really said it, or whether it was some social media-driven urban legend. A few seminarians from those parts were telling people that the rest of it said ...

... and his successor will be elected the mayor of Chicago.

... but that's probably an urban legend too. But worry no more. Tim Drake of the National Catholic Register comes clean with the rest of it ...

His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.

... and His Eminence explains himself, and much, much more. Click here.
