The 1989 movie, directed by Rob Reiner and starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, explored the question of whether men and women can be (just) friends. Two young independent filmmakers by the names of Jesse Budd and Patrick Romero set out to the library of Utah State University to find out. (Hey, aren't they all Mormons out there? Does that affect the data just a bit? Discuss.) For the most part, the guys all gave one answer, and the gals all gave the other answer -- that is, until put under just a little more scrutiny. But it makes for a great palate cleanser, and just the thing for this week's Friday Afternoon Moment of Whimsy.
