“I read the news today, oh boy ...”

While our dear old Uncle Jay is getting ready to sing out the old year, and make us uneasy about the new one, let's look into a few items from the wires of Yahoo! News, as well as our other mentionable sources.

Do you hoard pennies? I do. New legislation being considered could work for selective packrats (like yours truly), with the prospect of being able to trade them in, and walk away with a small fortune. (ABC News)

Recently, agents of the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) detained seventeen-year-old Vanessa Gibbs, for traveling on a flight from Virginia to Florida with a handgun (design on her purse).

A nineteen-year-old college student from the University of South Carolina was disciplined for hanging a Confederate flag from his dorm room window. The student in question, Byron Thomas, is black. (Didn't see that comin', did ya?) University officials withdrew their action once they realized how stupid they looked.

Finally, we can all relax now, as researchers have discovered that theories about when the Mayans said the world would end were not entirely accurate. Apparently, they were even better at math than originally thought, thus it is only after further examination that we learn, that the world will not end in 2012 after all. Or maybe it will, as "thou knowest neither the day nor the hour." (Reuters)

And for now, that's all the news that fits. Stay tuned, and stay in touch.
