This week's usual Friday entry ends the week on a bittersweet note. On top of the passing of Doc Watson, we recently learned of his having been preceded on the 23rd of May by banjoist Doug Dillard, who played with his brothers in a band known as, of course, The Dillards. Multi-instrumentalist John McEuen, long-time member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, called him “my mentor.” He is featured here in a scene from The Andy Griffith Show in the early 1960s, where he and his kin formed part of the mountain dwelling family known as The Darlings.
We're just in that kind of mood for this week's Friday Afternoon Moment of Whimsy.
