I knew a woman who was once an au pair for Gerry Rafferty. At the time, he played an early demo of "Baker Street" for her. Being from Louisiana, she told him it reminded her of the jazzmen who played in New Orleans. So he replaced the guitar solos between verses with a saxophone. The rest is history. I have no way of checking her story, and I haven't seen her in years. I've also never been to New Orleans, and I really don't get the connection between this song and anything reminiscent of New Orleans.
Still a good song, though.
