Candlemas Day

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple, forty days after the celebration of His birth. In some parts of Europe, this signifies the end of Christmastide. It is also the day when candles are blessed at Mass, and there is a solemn procession around the church, to symbolize “a light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” (Luke 2:32)

Most people who don't know better, know this only as Groundhog Day. If only they asked me, they'd know why:
